Husqvarna Lily 555 - new to me sewing machine

Look at my new toy!  Manufactured in Sweden in the late 1990s. This machine has 120 stitches on six menus, including three uppercase fonts.
Operating instructions, tension settings, feet selection are easy to follow.
Simple snap on feet.  The manual is available for free downland from Husqvarna.
Lily is an excellent machine for free motion quilting.
Regardless of thread choice, she sews beautiful, precise stitches and purrs like a kitten.
November's free motion challenge will be quilted with this beauty.
Lily's script font in navy blue.
Little blue butterflies and fmq spirals.
Backside of spirals, butterflies and my name.  Pretty sure I'm in love!  It is just wonderful to operate.  How I wish the harp was larger, as that is really the only flaw I see with the Husqvarna Lily  555.  Happy stitching all.

  4. Hi,
I have the opportunity to purchase a Lily 555, and I wonder what a reasonable price is for the machine. Sorry to bother you, but I found you on google and don't know who else to ask!

    1. The Husqvarna/Viking 500 series machines are some of the best machines ever manufactured by Husqvarna. I purchased a 500 new in 1997 for $1700 CAD. In 2011 I bought a Lily 530 for $350 CAD, then I swapped it for a Lily 555. I sold that Lily 555 for $300 and bought this one for $400. The first 555 I had was well used and showed her age in several places, my second 555 is in pristine condition. If the machine is in mint condition with the manual and all the accessories including the extension table and hard cover carrying case, in Canada you should be able to buy it in the $300 to $500 range. If you can get one for less than $300 you have found a real bargain.

      Hope this helps.

  5. I just found your blog Googling! I have this machine - I was lucky enough to have it gifted to me. But I can't find an instruction manual anywhere so I feel like i'm not using it to it's full potential. I saw your manual and was very jealous!! Any hot tips out of it?

  6. How do I get the front off the machine. There is some thread stuck in the take-up lever and I can't get it out. It is hindering the operation of the machine. Any ideas?

  7. ok, i don't know where else to turn, i inherited a 555 from my niece, who has passed away. I have alot of feet, accessories, etc, BUT cannot get it to free motion quilt. I drop the feed dogs and when i start sewing they pop right back up. The accessory guides etc. say to choose a particular stitch from the "set" menu and i can't find a "set" menu. have prog, rep and norm on menu choices. what am i doing wrong? have been searching, to no avail, to find a video online. Thank you! rlvind2@yahoo.com is my email.

  8. (Wendy) I have the Viking Husqvarna Lily 555. How can I position the needle right or left in small increments?

    1. Use the stitch width button
(+), 0 is the center position, width
6 is left needle position, width 6
      mirror imaged is right needle
position. To return to center position,
use the stitch width button (-)
and step back to 0. Adjust the width
between 0-6 for additional positions. The manual is available for free download here:

  9. Hi Tammy,

I am trying to write a short message and it is not working. Do I need a hoop or different thread other than regular sewing thread? something? I have the manual but it doesn’t do into how to do it. I am so frustrated. I got this machine from my sister in law and it is in pristine condition. I’m just finishing a quilt for my new baby granddaughter and I really want to put a little message on it. Thank you!

    1. Hi, congratulations on the Husqvarna Lily sewing. it is one of my favourites. I would love to help you write a message on new granddaughter's quilt. Would you please send me your contact information so we can talk directly?

    2. Hello again Unknown, you do not need a hoop or different thread to write message on your quilt. I don't know which model you have, in the manual pages 19-23 explain how to program your Lily to stitch out letters and sequences. I use polyester machine embroidery thread because it is shinny and pretty. But any sewing machine thread will work fine.
